Why? Why the hell not.
Blogging for Apples? Why the heck not!
Riding the train on the way into work this morning I decided to start a blog. It sounds fun, it’s free and I doubt any old people or puppies will be harmed in the process.
I am blessed with the knowledge that my 9 to 5 job cares as little for me as I for it and am mercifully left alone, most days, to my own devices in my sparse little office. My boss still spells my name with a C vs a K and that’s the way I intend to keep it.
I don’t mean to imply I am a freeloader- I work a (relatively) honest day’s work for a (relatively) honest days pay, all I mean is that you won’t see me singing the company fight song or working 60 hour weeks. Been there, done that.. not my cup of tea any longer.
So on the frequent empty hours when my services are really not necessary I intend to write. A writer is, after all, what I tend to call myself now. So with genuine concern for the wellbeing of our senior citizens and a watchful eye for puppies everywhere… away we go!
Why “Blogging for Apples” you ask? Great question and alas, no sensible answer is forthcoming. Why not is about all I can muster. I like the name- it’s got a nice little ring to it and the image of that joyously frustrating childhood game is a perfect metaphor for the seek and capture game we, as adult writers, now play each day. The stories are everywhere, in everything and every person- simply waiting to be chosen and plucked from the bucket.
And there you have it. I hope those that stop by find a small amount of entertainment, a dash of insight or at least a seed of curiosity previously unknown and in the end a small body of work by a writer in progress can be born. That’s the plan anyway! Writers write after all, and anywhere they can.
